The Community empowerment weekend, held on July 26-28, was a huge success for both the community and for The Play4Peace Initiative!

On Friday, our athletes who participated in the Experiential Learning Lab, joined us in-person to tour investment properties and experience hands-on learning from Noah Hano, co-founder and CEO of Three 33 properties. The athletes visited multiple properties and toured all parts of the properties from the storefronts as well as the operational side such as basements and roofs.

Our signature event occurred on Saturday with our 3on3 basketball tournament! Athletes from various communities joined us in Harambee Park for a fun-filled day of playing basketball with the police officers. The highlights of the day included Jimmy Chin, superintendent of the Boston Police Department, receiving the Community Champion for Peace Award, and Boston’s own Jermaine Wiggins aka Wiggy, former Superbowl champion tight end for the New England Patriots, visiting us to present the award and shoot some hoops with us.

Our weekend concluded on Sunday with our first annual town hall event which was focused on promoting financial literacy in young student athletes. Our town hall was moderated by Chris Collins and featured a panel of 9 former and current student athletes who shared their knowledge and insights with the audience.

We would like to thank all of our partners: the Boston Police Department, the Massachusetts Police Activities League, Three 33 Properties, our volunteers, the Lincoln-Sudbury Alumni, The Verri Family Grant, and WEEI radio. And a big shout out to our sponsors: Granite Telecommunications, New England BioLabs, Hicks Auto Body, The Capital Group, and Smart Water.
